What makes this cartier rotonde de cartier perpetual calendar chronograph replica watch so interesting is that it is sized for someone with traditional tastes, and it is priced rather well all things considered. In steel, with silver dial, retail will be $9,500, or about $1,300 less than the Calibre de Chronograph, which is a bigger, sportier cased piece. The limited edition piece you see here with gorgeous blue dial is cased in white gold and will sell for around $24,600. Just 500 pieces will be made and all will be individually numbered. The stainless-steel piece will not be limited and offers a really nice new option for an elegant, in-house chronograph under $10,000.
This is the chronograph we have been waiting for from Cartier. The Rotonde de Cartier Chronograph Replica is round, 40 mm in diameter, uses Cartier’s great in-house caliber 1904-CH, and looks fantastic.
When we reviewed the Calibre de Cartier Chronograph here, we agreed that though the merits of the excellent in-house chronograph movement were very real selling points, there was a lack of design cohesiveness throughout the piece – seen primarily on the dial. Here, the Rotonde de Cartier Chronograph provides us with a more balanced, traditional dial with the full Roman numeral treatment, silvered outer minute track, and Breguet hands.
The 40 mm case is wonderfully balanced, and the rectangular pushers are incredibly subtle from the front of the case looking at the watch. Inside the Cartier Replica watch is the same great 1904-CH self-winding movement from the Calibre Chrono. Here though, it actually fills up more of the case than with the Calibre, so it looks a little better from behind. Still, I would like to see slightly better finishing on the rotor of this Cartier movement.
